adrenal fatigue

This is an addendum to my message I left yesterday. I believe I may suffer from adrenal fatigue. I've had very low energy levels, difficulty waking up, energy levels highest in the evening. I have been like this for years. I'm 54 y/o male. I also have been on Prednisone for Crohn's disease for many years, currently on 20 mg. My questions are: (1) what tests should or could be performed to see if in fact I have adrenal fatigue?, (2) would test results be tainted by by Prednisone usage?, and (3) could you recommend a doctor who works with such issues in the Sacramento area?

There are two tests to confirm the diagnosis. The ACTH Challenge Test involves the administration of IV ACTH to see if you can double your cortisol output in 30 minutes. The other test is the 24 hour urine measurement of adrenal steroids. (I prefer the latter.) Prednisone is very disruptive to the normal function of the adrenal gland and you should be off of it for at least a week before testing. (Also, since it is not doing you any good anyway, I wonder why you are taking it.) I expect Dr. Michael Kwiker in Sacramento would follow this approach. His number is (916) 489-4400. Good luck. If no luck with Dr. Kwiker, I can help you if you don;t mind the two hour drive to Santa Rosa.
