Chronic Gastritis

Last year I had an endoscopic exam which showed slight gastritis and tested positive for Heliobacter pylori. My doctor gave me the 14 day treatment, but the pain in the pit of my stomach never went away. So a year later I was sent for a CT scan along with an abdominal ultra sound and blood work. All came back fine. So the doctor informed me that the biopsy showed "chronic gastritis." I never ever had any problems with acid nor did I have burning. It was just a constant pain in the pit of my stomach, but since I started taking acid medication, (nexium, prilo, etc, etc) that's all I seem to have. Burning. So how all this came about is beyond me and how I'll EVER get it to go away seems impossible.

A pain in the pit of the stomach can certainly be acid. It only burns if it refluxes up the esophagus. The presence of H. pylori must be ruled out. I suggest a serum antibody titer for H. pylori. If Heliobacter is truly gone, then you have to search for other causes including the opposite condition, namely hypochlorhydria - which can cause similar symptoms and is treated with Betaine HCL.
