I am looking for information regarding left ventricular dysfunction, specifically, it's congenital causes if any. If not congenital, but acquired, then any known causes.

The heart is a muscular pump with valves which is electrified and regulated by a nerve net. Therefore, normal function can be interrupted by any process which weakens the muscle, damages the integrity of the valves or disrupts the electrical flow of the nerve net. Many serious systemic illnesses can involve the muscular aspect of the heart including metabolic diseases and infection. Also trauma and circulatory problems have to be considered. Valve damage generally comes from infectious processes although trauma can also play a role here. The nerve net can be affected by electrolyte deficiencies and aging which may result in dysrhythmias. Obviously a text book could be written on this subject, and many have been. A good medical library would have several. Large medical libraries are found at medical schools and smaller medical libraries are usually found in hospitals.
