complex cyst in kidney

My doctor did a CT scan and said I have a complex cyst in my left kidney. My husband ask him to stick a needle in it to see if it is cancer. He said he didn't want to do that because if it was cancer he might string it though my urinary tract. He wants to scan my left kidney every six months and he said if it was cancer then it would grow. It is 17 mm in size. What do you think I should do?

I like your doctor's way of thinking and his cautionary attitude. Too many doctors go willy-nilly after a diagnosis of cancer without consideration of what the effects might be of poking, cutting and sticking a malignant tumor. My only question would be in the length of time before a re-examination. If that were my situation I would want to know if it were growing before six months, perhaps in one month.
