Anosmia

Dr. KennedyAnosmia is the absence of the sense of smell. This condition can be due to failure of the neural circuitry to develop in the first place. It can also be due to incapacitation of the neural apparatus after development due to, for example, rhinitis preventing odors from gaining access to the olfactory area perhaps from a cold, allergy, or head trauma, or perhaps to direct injury to the olfactory cranial nerve.
