I am a 39 year old female that has recently been dianosed with pernicious anemia. I went to see a doctor after suffering with extreme lower leg pain and swelling. A complete blood panel was done as well as a urinalisis, and EMG. The urinalisis ruled out diabeties, and the EMG came back normal. The blood panel showed my blood count ( red cells) to be low and a great deficiency of vitamin B12. I am now scheduled for a Schilling,s Test. The first part to be done this Thursday, September 16th.
I was also diagnosed with neuropathy upon my first visit to the doctor. I have been prescribed neurontin.
What can you tell me about this diagnosis and the probability that it is correct? Can you tell me what to expect in the future if this is a correct diagnosis? Do I need to worry about my children also being subject to this disease? Right now I am very frightened because no one has been forthcoming with any information. Can you help?
