Are there any essential carbohydrates?

"Essential" means they cannot be synthesized in the body and are necessary for life. In other words, you die without 'em and you can't make 'em. What can be synthesized in the body and what you can live without is called "non-essential." There are no known essential carbohydrates. Non-essential does not necessarily mean unimportant. Supplementation with non-essentials surely has its place in nutritional medicine both in carbohydrates and non-carbohydrates.
