mercury, anxiety attacks and candida

About 8 weeks ago I started taking iodine supplementation (Lugol's drops). About 2 weeks later I had a fairly severe "panic attack" at night that lasted on and off through the night: fast heart beat, racing thoughts, shakes, bowel movement 4 times during the night. In the 6 weeks since then I have not felt the same. Symptoms have been "doom and gloom" fearful thoughts, lack of energy and motivation or "zest" for life. I have also had a few smaller scale "panic attack" episodes at night time. For several years I have also had recurrent athletes foot, mainly between my right small toe and the next one, itching, flaky skin. I have also had anal itch of some level for several years. I notice that these two symptoms are linked to the amount of carbs/sugar I eat. For about 30 years of my life (I am now 42) I had amalgam fillings in my teeth. About 4 years ago I had them replaced. Could iodine have mobilized stored mercury in my body and released it? Right now I am in the middle of several DMSA cycles, which seem to be helping.

Pro-chloride of mercury liberates iodine which is stored as mercuric iodide. It is hard to conceive that iodine could liberate mercury because it actually would tend to sequester mercury.

Could it be that the relatively high doses of iodine/potassium iodide that I took could have liberated other toxins or perhaps even provided a boost to certain bacteria or viruses?

Sometimes things happen and we want to know why and can never track it down. Whatever happened, even if you could identify some esoteric cause, you almost surely would not have a blueprint for how to reverse it. You have to take it for what it is and go from there. In general, anything in which you are deficient can be corrected with large doses, but to continue those large doses, be it Lugol's or anything else, is not wise. A silly but instructive example often cited in medicine is the condition of dehydration. You can cure that with water, but keep drinking water in large quantities and you die, literally drown yourself physiologically.
