Traditional medicine vs. alternative therapies

I am doing a research project on Traditional or Modern medicine vs. alternative therapies and I am coming up dry. I want to research the changing trend towards alternative therapies and find out how today's physicians view such therapies as chiropractic, massage naturopathy for things like chronic pain, diabetes, migraines etc.

Traditional medicine vs. alternative therapies

First a comment about your terminology. "Traditional" and "modern" do not describe what is actually "mainstream" medicine. Alternative medicine as practiced by M.D.s and D.O.s is much closer to "traditional" than what is the dominant mode of practice today (which is pharmaceutical and surgical). If you examine traditional medicine as in the practice methods of the person widely considered to be the best clinician who ever lived, Sir William Osler (who died in 1919), his methods were very similar to what is now called "alternative medicine" (not alternatives to medicine - which includes a lot of baloney, but alternative medicine). Since 1919 the pharmaceutical industry has literally purchased and now owns mainstream medicine lock, stock, and barrel.

Second, I suggest you set interview appointments with 15-25 docs and have a well thought out set of questions and a recorder. Of course, docs are a wary lot and you would probably need to insure anonymity to get the most honest answers.
