MS-like symptoms, depression, etc

A year after giving birth I started having sensations of numbness in my face and sometimes on either arm. I had a bad hip and lower back pain, major knots in my back and neck. My feet tingled, and were sometimes asleep when I woke up. My joints actually cracked and popped as I got up. All of this was new to me. A couple of times I thought I felt dizzy or that my gait was off. My OB/GYN scheduled an MRI for MS, but my intuition said that wasn't it. I started eating organically, drinking more water, cut out processed foods, I take whole food suppliments and just recently added Kombucha tea and royal jelly. I feel great. My question is, can toxicity give the above symptoms? I really feel that my body was overloaded with past antibiotic use, horrible food choices, and then really given a whollop by my rough birth and my first medication-filled hospital stay. My doctor, however, lectures me that I should still get an MRI, even though I haven't had symptoms in a long time. Any thoughts?

If an MRI were a dangerous procedure, I would fall on the side of deferring it. However, as it is not, I see no reason not to have the information it could yield. It does seem likely that you were toxic or suffering from a chronic infection (which is just another kind of toxicity) and perhaps you still are but have managed to compensate for it with the adoption of a healthy lifestyle. If you abandonded your super-healthy lifestyle I wonder if your symptoms would return. If they did, I would say you were simply compensating from an underlying illness. What that underlying illness might be - there is not enough information present to have a clear idea of it.

So, what about all of the books I've been reading lately that say you can turn just about any health problem around with a clean, organic, sometimes raw, diet? I didn't think taking on a healthy lifestyle masked problems. I thought synthetic medications masked problems. Why go in when I have no symptoms at all? I watched my grandparents, and now my mother, take a downward spiral once they were put on meds for one problem, then another, etc, etc - and they spent so much unnecessary money on "tests" that accounted for nothing. Spending $6K on an MRI when I feel fine seems exteme to me. What type of holistic doctor could I speak with about past symptoms and what to do from here?

You make your side of the argument very well and you have good points. I do not necessarily agree. If you want a list of possible doctors, use the Find A Doctor function - yellow tab at the top of this page.
