Bloody Stool

Is there an alternative route to finding a reason for blood in the stool than a colonoscopy? Or is this recommended as an all around first step regardless of what philosophy to medicine you adhere to? I am a 33 yr old female, and have had two episodes of blood in my stool over the last week.

The first order of business is to nail down the cause of the bleeding. Blood which is red is coming from the lower digestive tract. If from higher up it will be black and positive to the Guiac test. Few cancers are more curable if caught in time and until you have the colonoscopy you will not know what you have and you will be worried about it.
