Hyperthyroid and Lugol's Solution

I have two questions about my hyperthyroidism: 1. I have been given the options of surgery or RAI (radioactive iodine) to “resolve” my thyroid problem. I would like to avoid both. Is there any other alternatives I could try that you know of? 2. In all my hypothyroid research, I keep finding fleeting reference to Lugol’s Solution. I bought a small bottle and tried it twice: 2 drops in a glass of water. It certainly slowed things down to where I felt as if I were hypothyroid. I have read that it used to be prescribed for thyroid problems, one source stating a dose of 2/3 of a teaspoon (60 drops) but no indication as to frequency. In another, it was 3 to 5 drops 3x daily. Do you know of any source on this therapy today? Do you have any council regarding it?

The two conservative treatments for hyperthyroidism are oral iodine and lithium. Sometimes they are used in combination. You have already discovered the first (Lugol's). In my opinion, all conservative methods should be exhausted before resorting to surgery or radioactive iodine, both of which destroy the thyroid gland.
