Please tell me the symptoms of diabetes. I have a continous thirst and all of a sudden I am coming out in bruises on my right wrist and hand. I know I have not knocked myself but I now have four bruises which have just appeared. I am also very irritable and keep having loads of asthma attacks.

The classic signs of diabetes mellitus are polydipsia, polyuria, and polyphagia: drinking, urinating, and eating excessively. However, one can have diabetes mellitus without noticing the classic signs. The diagnosis is made by Glucose Tolerance Test and also the Serum Hemoglobin A-1-C Test is useful. Serum insulin levels distinguish between the insulin resistant (usually adult onset) variety and the hypoinsulinemic (usually childhood or teen years onset) variety. These should be measured concurrently with the blood sugar levels in the Glucose Tolerance Test. Easy bruisability is not diagnostic of diabetes. The most common cause is the use of NSAIDs such as aspirin, Naprosin, ibuprofen, etc. and there can be more serious causes such as idiopathic thrombocytopenia purpura (ITP). See your doc for a diagnosis.
