food is getting stuck in esophagus

My husband has trouble with getting food stuck in his esophagus. In the past it has been mostly bread and meat, but last week he even had trouble with his pop going down smoothly. He has started to complain that he feels every bite go down and then hits a "sore spot." He now has a very bad breath odor. I have heard that people have had a procedure done to stretch the esophagus. What would be going on with the sore spot and bad breath odor ?

He needs a diagnosis before esophageal stretching or anything else. Get him to a GI doctor for some serious testing. Halitosis is usually caused by a toxic colon which would more likely be found in a person who would include "pop" in his diet.
