Eating close to bedtime

Does one actually gain more weight eating close to bedtime, as opposed to eating hours beforehand?

I think that fits in the category of Old Doctors' Tales which they got from Old Wives (probably their mothers). The rule of thumb is: eat when you are hungry and not when you are not hungry. So, for example, if you are hungry at bedtime, eat. If (possibly as a consequence) you are not hungry in the morning, do not eat until you are hungry. Then eat healthy food. East slowly, chew well, and when hunger is satisfied, stop eating (you do not have to finish your plate). That plus a normal metabolic rate and clean livin' should normalize weight over time.
