Stomach problems

I went to the doctor because my back hurts really bad under my shoulder blades and right in the center and around the side by my ribs. It has been like this for a month. He thinks my stomach is messed up because I have a lot of heartburn and sometimes feel sick after I eat. He took blood and he mixes it with something and determines if there is a antibody there. Then he said if that came back OK he would run a tube down my throat and look at my stomach, that I may have a ulcer. How can an ulcer mess up your back?

Your doctor is probably thinking of the pain in your back as a "referred" pain. When two areas of the body are innervated from the same level of the spinal cord, a signal from one area may be interpreted by the brain as coming from the other area.
