T1 and T2 are precursors, not active hormones. T3 is the active hormone and to a much lesser extent T4. Armour and the like works well, typically, for people under 40; after that conversion of T4 into T3 is increasingly difficult and T3 is therefore the best choice. Time release T3 (combined with time release T4 if you want to be perfect) is not commercially available and is only made by real (compounding) pharmacists. It mimics natural thyroid action better than anything else out there. Even Armour is not a slow release of T3 although if conversion is going well, T4 into T3 is a kind of time release mechanism. Synthetic vs. non-synthetic does not matter. As long as a hormone is orthomolecular, that is the same molecular structure as made by the body, then the problem devolves into achieving a delivery system which mimics the way nature does it.
