Polycythemia Vera

A friend of mine was recently diagnosed with Polycythemia Vera. He had been misdiagnosed for about 8 years and was treated for everything from asthma to congestive heart failure. He has suffered two heart attacks and most recently a stroke. He is 42 years old. He was perfectly healthy prior to 1995. Now, he has high blood pressure and diabetes caused, we believe, by his condition. He is on many different types of medications and they do not seem to be helping the hypertension or the diabetes. He is also on Coumadin and a 325 mg. aspirin and he's had a pint of blood drawn as a treatment for the polycythemia. I've read about chelation and wondered if it would be an effective treatment for him? Would it help reduce the number of red blood cells which should in turn eliminate many of the other problems? Would chelation be beneficial to help restore any of the damage caused by the stroke?

Polycythemia vera is the overproduction of red cells. Chelation is not a treatment for this condition. I believe chelation can help ameliorate the final outcome of strokes if it is applied right away after the stoke - asap. Polycythemia vera is a very difficult condition to treat and blood letting is the major method of treatment. Be patient with your doc.
