Giant Cell Arteritis (Temporal Arteritis)

My grandmother is scheduled for a biopsy for suspected temporal arteritis. She has been having horrible headaches and has something they tested for in her blood, sorry not sure what, that suggests pretty strongly that she has this. She is 70 years old and has rheumatoid arthritis. She is allergic to steroids and cannot take them at all. Methotrexate makes her very sick and she cannot take that either. Do you know of anything else she can take? If not, do you think that there is a good chance she could loose her sight?

Loss of vision is possible with temporal arteritis, but is not a certainty. Visual loss affects as many as 50% of patients if untreated. Up to 75% of patients experiencing visual disturbance in one eye develop visual loss in the contralateral eye within 3 weeks. As to other therapy, detoxification and regeneration of her immune system would be the proper approach, but she needs to be in the care of a person with experience and knowledge of how to achieve this safely and effectively.
