how to take fiber and supplements

I have been told to take fiber i.e.: psyllium husk powder or Citrucel with food and an 8 oz. glass of water. This makes me feel extremely bloated, prevents me from eating more than just a few morsels, and, is pretty inconvenient when I am not at home. I wonder, also, if this method of taking fiber with meals interferes with digestion. I take my vitamin supplements containing B vitamins in particular, with my meals otherwise I get very nauseous. Will taking the fiber at the same time interfere with the absorption of the vitamins? It is hard to shovel all of that stuff in with my meals. I usually only eat one full meal a day because I cannot eat too much at once. Do you have any recommendation about how to solve this?

When I take a bulking agent, I prefer to take it on an empty stomach for the very reasons you mentioned. I think you are right on each count.
