calcium supplements

Your opinion, please, on the best form of calcium supplement? A friend (a chiropractor) is pushing calcium lactate.

Lactate is good. Citrate also. Ascorbate is especially good because you are also getting the active form of vitamin C. These are all chelated forms of calcium which makes for easy transport across cell membranes. Avoid calcium carbonate (Coral Calcium - what a joke) because it is not easily transported. Calcium supplementation alone is hardly worth doing. The other minerals and nutrients (particularly vit. K2) are critically important to bone formation. Magnesium should be present in a ratio of 2:1 with calcium, in other words twice as much magnesium as calcium. (Magnesium is what makes bones hard, not calcium. Calcium makes bones white which is important also I suppose.)
