My aunt recently died from Goodpasture's disease. Her sister is my mother and I am concerned that she may be getting the same disease. Please send me as much information as possible about the cause, symptoms and cures from the disease.

Goodpasture's fits into the autoimmune category along with such things as lupus and scleroderma. The immune system makes antibodies against the lung and kidneys. Goodpasture's is not necessarily fatal and may last only a few weeks or as long as 2 years. Bleeding in the lungs can be very serious in some cases. But Goodpasture's does not usually lead to permanent lung damage. Damage to the kidneys, however, may be long-lasting. If the kidneys fail, dialysis to remove waste products and extra fluid from the blood or kidney transplantation may become necessary. The thinking in natural medicine is that there is damage to the digestive tract leading to a leaky gut phenomenon admitting foreign proteins into the body and the reaction of the immune system is to make antibodies against these foreign proteins. If they are similar to proteins found in the lung and kidneys, then there is a kind of attack on those organs. Therefore one would want to do whatever is necessary to shut the gate, so to speak, by repairing the gut and clearing up the leaky gut.
