low metabolism-wieght loss?

For the past 5 years or so I've gained between 10 - 15 pounds each year. That makes me 45 lbs overweight. I'm no slouch. I exercise regularly and eat a variety of "healthy" foods. I've spoken to 2 doctors so far. My thyroid levels are off but still within normal ranges. My cholesterol levels are steadily increasing also. Both physician's basically called me a pig. "Take another look at your diet, and exercise more." I was at a 900 cal 6 mile per day routine when I was told that. I can't stand the thought of talking to another doc.

Of course your hormone status should be evaluated and your metabolic rate measured. Your body temperature should average at least 98.2 under the tongue. Mercury toxicity is a common cause of lowered metabolic rate. The mechanism is blockage of the action of thyroid hormone at the cell wall receptor site. If you are not heavy metal toxic, and your thyroid and other hormones are OK, you are looking at straight diet and life style issues. The most common cause of overweight in America is the consumption of simple and refined carbohydrates. Your increasing cholesterol levels lead me to suspect increasing consumption of simple and refined carbs. These things are converted almost directly to fat and stored. From a probability standpoint, you most likely have a load of mercury amalgam dental fillings and consume simple and refined carbohydrate (flour based) foods.
