Coxa Valga, Coxa Vara Print E-mail

Dr. Kennedy Coxa valga is an inward curvature of the hip. Coxa vara is an outward curvature of the hip. Malformation of the hip at birth, such as coxa vara and coxa valga increase one's risk for development of osteoarthritis of the hip in later life and sometimes lead to hip replacement. In some cases of polio involving foot drop, the hip on the affected side becomes arthritic later in life and may eventually require replacement.
