Chronic Otitis Externa Print E-mail

Dr. Kennedy Chronic otitis externa is chronic inflammation of the skin lining the external ear canal leading to the ear drum. It can be caused by a number of problems including fungus (Aspergillosis), bacterial infection, a chronic skin disorder (eczema or seborrhea), chronic irritation (hearing aids), allergy, chronic drainage from middle ear disease, a tumor (rare), or it may simply be due to frequently scratching the ear. In most patients, more than one factor is be involved.
